A POLICE officer was punched, kicked and left with a broken cheek bone after he tried to speak to a driver about his tax disk.

The incident happened in Castle Street, Canterbury, at around 10.20am on Monday, September 22, but police believe the car, a red Volkswagen Golf GTI, registration G202 SV0, may have come from Thanet.

The officer approached the driver who got out of his car and punched the policeman.

He fell to the ground and was repeatedly kicked causing serious facial injuries, including a fractured cheek bone. The 46-year-old is expected to be off work for some.

Anyone with information, or knows the whereabouts of the car, is asked to call DC John Daly at Canterbury Police on 01227 762055 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
