Surprised shoppers were doing double-takes after a 'royal' visit to Kent this afternoon.

Visitors stopped to take selfies in Canterbury city centre with Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge. Or so they might have thought.

Because, of course, the real couple were enjoying the Queen's Diamond Jubilee festivities in London today - and it was their lookalikes who ventured to Kent instead.

Simon Watkinson and Heidi Agan were chauffeur driven to the Cathedral precincts by Barrett’s Land Rover where they had a tour of the famous landmark.

They left via the Mint Yard Gate - the entrance to The King's School - and walked back up Palace Street, Sun Street, Buttermarket, Mercery Lane, St Margaret’s Street before heading up to Whitefriars.

This was a joint Whitefriars, Canterbury BID and Canterbury Cathedral activity to celebrate the start of the Platinum Jubilee weekend.

Among the places they visited included M&S, Roly’s Fudge and The Shakespeare.

A spokesperson for Whitefriars said: "They were very well received with many double-takes and excited visitors wanting to take selfies with the ‘lookalike’ royals."

Mr Watkinson previously starred in a T Mobile wedding dance video as William - which amassed more than 30 million views on YouTube.

Ms Agan has featured on TV and in the press. She works across the world, including the US, Australia and China.

The first big day of Platinum Jubilee celebrations will end tonight with the lighting of thousands of beacons across both the UK and the Commonwealth.

The evening ceremonies will also mark the first major event of the four-day bank holiday weekend that communities can join in with.
