Canterbury Tales visitor attraction gets spruce-up... including the Miller's buttocks

Staff at the Canterbury Tales were faced with a cheeky challenge when giving the visitor attraction its annual spruce-up.
Because among the painting and decorating jobs was a touch-up of the Miller’s backside.
The bawdy Chaucer character bares his bottom in one of the tales, which often raises a smile and giggle among visitors to the centre in St Margaret’s Street.
Among other characters getting a makeover – along with the scenery – were the Wife of Bath and the Pardoner.
Lyndsay Ridley, manager of the attraction which celebrated its 25th anniversary last year, said: “With tens of thousands of visitors through the doors each year our reconstruction of medieval life comes in for a lot of wear and tear.
“Repair work and painting of the pilgrims plus the city streetscapes and the settings is a painstaking job and requires lots of patience and a steady hand.
“We’ve even had to restore the Miller’s naked bottom, which makes an appearance in one of Chaucer’s more saucy tales.”
“All the renovation work is now complete and we are ready for another exciting year.”
