MORE modern image, new ranges and 20 extra jobs are promised with a £1.5 million revamp of Canterbury store Marks & Spencer.

The company says the St George's Street store will have improved lighting, new walkways, refurbished fitting rooms and new display fixtures, as well as new outside signs.

Bob Jones, Marks & Spencer's regional manager for East Kent, said Canterbury's customers deserved the best on the high street and he was delighted the store would be among the first to benefit from the investment.

"Staff are very excited at the news and I am sure customers will be delighted by the new look," he said. "We are all committed to providing the service and products that they value so highly."

The improvements are part of a £80 million modernisation programme across 100 of the company's stores.

Mr Jones said he was particularly pleased that the improvements would be carried out in Canterbury before Christmas.
