Kent’s new head coach, Jimmy Adams, is primed to take up his position at St Lawrence next week after securing a visa.

The former West Indies Test skipper will arrive "in the next four or five days" according to chief executive Jamie Clifford after successfully completing all the checks and is expected to fly from Kingston, Jamaica, early next week.

The 43-year-old (pictured) more than played his part as the club confirmed they would be flying out to Antigua in March for a 10-day training camp.

The county decided against travelling to Dubai again, as they did in pre-season last year because there are several other clubs and national teams due to train there in the next couple of months.

Mr Clifford said: "We checked Jimmy was comfortable with the move and his knowledge and contacts with people at that end was a big factor in us choosing to go there. It helps having someone so well known."

Elsewhere, Kent fast bowler Matt Coles has been called into the England Lions squad for their tour of Sri Lanka and the UAE. The seamer replaces injured Surrey fast bowler Stuart Meaker.

Coles is not the only Kent player abroad – all-rounder Darren Stevens is featuring for the Dhaka Gladiators in the inaugural Bangladesh Premier League.
