Man due in court after armed police swoop on Canterbury

A man is due in court after armed police swooped on a residential area following a reported disturbance.

Police were called to Cornwall Gardens, Canterbury, early on Tuesday evening after a report a man had been threatened.

Armed officers were also spotted in the Sturry Road area of the city as part of the response.

Police have now confirmed Paul Brewster, of New Ruttington Lane in Canterbury, has been charged with possessing an imitation firearm with intent, and assault.

The 33-year-old appeared at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court yesterday and was released on bail.

The case will next be heard at Canterbury Crown Court on December 20.
