A brave bystander attempted to stop a masked man as he fled the scene of a jewellery shop raid.

The robber had escaped with cash after bursting into Stilwell Jewellers in Burgate, Canterbury, on Saturday morning.

CCTV footage shows him fleeing the scene clad in all-black clothing, with an image released by police this afternoon.

He was last spotted turning left into Stour Street from Hospital Lane.

A witness attempted to stop him as he fled, but was unsuccessful.
