McDonald's in Canterbury closed due to 'technical failure'

McDonald's in Canterbury city centre is shut after suffering problems with its till system.

During the usually busy lunchtime period, an employee has been standing outside the St George's Street premises handing out money off vouchers.

One worker said it is hoped the restaurant will be back up and running this evening.

A sign on the restaurant's window says: "Due to unforeseen technical issues, we regret to inform you the store is closed.

"We currently do not have an ETA on when we will be open again.

"Sorry for any inconvenience caused."

McDonald's has been contacted for further details.

The Canterbury branch was recently revealed to be the worst in Kent for police incidents.

Police have been called to McDonald's outlets in Kent 4,814 times in just two-and-a-half-years.

Figures sourced by KM found that Canterbury is the worst offender, with police alerted to 379 incidents at the outlet since the start of 2016 - an average of three per week.
