Midfielder Darren Marsden has done a U-turn on his decision to switch from Herne Bay to Faversham.

Marsden had verbally agreed to sign for Ryman League side Faversham but after joining Bay on an end-of-season tour to Magaluf, he returned and re-signed for them instead.

Assistant boss Clive Walker was philosophical about Marsden’s decision and was confident they could find a replacement.

"He has gone back to Herne Bay and it’s his choice," said Walker.

"It happens and if he wants to continue playing with his mates then great. We are disappointed as he is a good player and someone we wanted but we’ll just have to look somewhere else now.

"He would have been a key player for us but we’ll have to look about for someone else and that’s the way the game is.

"The social side is important to him, so fair enough. That’s his decision and we have to abide by it."

The midfielder (pictured) scored 10 goals for Bay last season but instead of helping Faversham in their pursuit of honours in Ryman League, Division 1 South, he has instead opted to help Bay clinch the Kent League Premier Division title – a feat achieved by the Lilywhites in 2010.
