THE FUNERAL has taken place of a former Canterbury music master and lay clerk in the Cathedral choir.

Ted Armitage, who was 82, taught at Junior King's School for 33 years between 1948 and 1981 and was its director of music when he retired and returned to his native Yorkshire.

He was widely appreciated for his musical talent and continued to perform in his 'retirement', including at York Minster where his funeral service was held.

He had moved to Folkestone in recent months to be near friends and had connections with St Mary's and St Eanswythe's Church where a memorial service is being planned.
