New arrival tops the scales at 180lb!

AS BABIES go they don't weigh in much heavier than the latest arrival at a Kent wild animal park who is estimated to turn the scales at a mammoth 180lb.

The African elephant calf was born to mum Tammy after a 22 month pregnancy.

Now the boisterous youngster - named Uzuri - can be seen mixing with the 13-strong herd in the paddock at Howletts, near Canterbury, and suckling from her mother.

It brings the number of elephant calves at the park to nine – all fathered by the 31-year-old bull, Jums.

Elephant keeper Liz Rickard said: "The baby is adjusting well to its new surroundings and family and gaining three to five kilos in weight every week."
