A burst water main has today closed a well-used road and led to traffic being diverted onto one of Canterbury's busiest routes.

The pipe has failed in Shalloak Road in Broad Oak and resulted in all seven Stagecoach bus services being re-routed, with the nearest alternative bus stop at Sturry railway station.

The work is underway outside 6, Damally Villas in Shallock Road and South East Water estimates it will take up to nine days to repair.

Diversions are via Sweechgate, Herne Bay Road, Sturry Hill, Mill Road and Sturry Road and Vauxhall Road.

South East Water has also been dealing with a burst main in St Nicholas Road, Thanington, which has now been repaired and supplies restored to homes.
