Two people were seriously injured and a third arrested after a crash at Harbledown on Tuesday afternoon.

The man and woman were airlifted to a London hospital after their Harley Davidson motorbike collided with a black BMW on the A2050 where it meets Faulkners Lane.

The pair remain in a serious condition in hospital while police arrested the 62-year-old driver of the BMW.

Traffic on the A2050 at Harbledown came to a standstill after Tuesday's crash.

He was turning right out of Faulkners Lane when the accident happened.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene at just after 2.30pm. They say the couple on the bike are in a serious, but stable condition.

The A2050, which connects the A2 with the Rheims Way in Canterbury and Palmars Cross Hill in Rough Common, remained closed into the evening.

The police's roads team tweeted this picture of the A2 close to where it meets the A2050 after Tuesday's crash.

Traffic travelling north out of Canterbury was diverted through Rough Common and on to Whitstable from where it could join the M2.

Police have bailed the BMW driver.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who has any information is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538 or email sciu.td@kent.pnn.police.uk quoting 28-0760.
