Nine cars have been damaged in a spate of vandalism on a city housing estate.

The vehicles had their windows smashed on Friday night and there have been other reports of paintwork being scratched elsewhere in the city.

It happened in the Hales Drive area with many unhappy car owners discovering the damage the following morning. The cost of repairs could run into thousands of pounds.

The vandalism prompted outrage on the Canterbury Residents Group Facebook page.

Becca Pritchard wrote: "Scum, why people do this I will never understand. Just hope someone has cctv and catch the people."

Michael Miles said: "Scary that people are going out drinking with hammers on them!"
