Canterbury: Police cordon off woods at University of Kent following a reported rape

Police have sealed off woods near a university after a woman was reportedly raped on site.

Detectives are at the University of Kent, Canterbury after being called at 3.41am this morning.

An area of woodland close to the junction with Whitstable Road and University Road has been cordoned off.

Inquiries are ongoing.

University spokesman Gary Hughes said: "We can confirm that police were called in the early hours to a report that a woman had been raped in University Road.

"The investigation into the incident is being carried out by detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate.

"Our students and staff have been made aware of the incident and the police appeal for information. Students and staff have also been reminded of personal safety advice.

"Support is available for any members of the University affected by this incident."
