A popular vegetarian and vegan cafe in Canterbury city centre has been sold.

The Veg Box Cafe was launched 12 years ago, and has occupied its current premises in cobbled Burgate for the last three.

The eatery serves up a "hearty" veggie and vegan menu, including soups, "Buddha bowls", fermented food, home-made cakes and organic juices.

Spread across two units in the city's Cathedral Quarter, it seats 45 people indoors, with room for a further 30 outside.

Its previous owners, Mr and Mrs Child, had operated the cafe for 12 years.

But the cafe has now been sold to new buyers from Medway, off a leasehold asking price of £115,000.

Robert Cockayne, regional valuations manager at specialist business property firm Sidney Phillips which sold the site, said: "The business is in continual growth year-on-year, occupies a strong trading position in the city and presents a unique and trendy offering.

"There was no doubt that strong interest was going to be generated on the open market.

"We have concluded the sale of the business and premises to a husband-and-wife team from Kent, who are ideal candidates to take this business to the next level.”

Sidney Phillips has other Canterbury businesses up for sale, including Cafe Turquoise and Bramley's Cocktail Bar, both of which are described as "great opportunities".
