Potholes: You have your say

We asked for your support in our potholes campaign – and you responded in droves.

The state of our roads has really got you hot under the collar.

One motorist counting the cost of the problem is Claire Ansell, from Doddington, whose tyre was split after hitting a deep hole in Ringlestone Road while driving to collect her children from school.

Housewife Claire said: “I didn’t realise how deep the hole was because it was full of water but I couldn’t avoid it anyway.

“As soon as my front wheel hit it, the tyre deflated and I had to change the wheel at the roadside. It cost me £83 for a new one.”

James Levermore had only just bought a new tyre for his Renault Megane when he hit a pothole which split and bent one of his alloy front wheels.

The 21-year-old warehouseman, was driving in Greenhill Road, Herne Bay, near his home in Blean View Road, when he hit the crater.

He said: “There was a big thud and a few seconds later the tyre went down. I could see the wheel rim was dented but it was only when I changed the wheel that I saw it was actually split on the inside.

“A new wheel and tyre are going to cost nearly £200. I have been sent a claim form by the county council which is about four pages long and seems to be largely a disclaimer with conditions under which they won’t pay out.”

Other pothole problems you have reported to us include near Stelling Minnis School, Wincheap, Mickleburgh Hill at Herne Bay, Clover Rise in South Tankerton and Manwood Avenue and Hales Drive in Canterbury.
