Pupils from Barton Court act out the bag snatch for the police video

Budding film makers at Barton Court Grammar School have produced a series of short police training videos.

Two mock incidents were filmed by International Baccalaureate students to assist in witness statement training.

Luke Cooksey and Tom Dash, both 17, acted out a vehicle theft, filmed in the school car park.

Meanwhile Annabelle Ledbrooke, Hayley Davies and Sophie Webster, all 17, played their parts in a bag snatch incident, filmed in Love Lane.

Both were shot and produced within two days and will now be handled by police area training officer Gerry Skinner.

“They look really cracking, they’ve come out really well,” he said after seeing the finished articles for the first time.

“The material I have to train PCSOs at the moment is very dated, antiquated, in video form and of very poor quality.

“With the help of the deputy head, the school has reproduced the old videos in updated forms and I’m really impressed with the quality of what they’ve produced.”

Courses of 10 officers at a time will watch the videos: five watching the films, while the rest collect witness statements from the footage.

Luke, who acted as an accomplice while a car was “hot wired” and driven away, said: “It was quite a good experience to take part. I’m looking at possibly pursuing a career in the police, so it was nice to help out.”

Teacher Andy Jefferies, who helped set up the partnership with the help of deputy head Adrian Ploughman, said: “Drama’s very strong here and it’s a great example of cementing links in the community.

“More and more of our students are looking to move into policing as a career path.”
