Manager Ray Turner expressed his relief after Faversham Town gained their first points of the season with a 3-2 victory over Croydon Athletic on Monday.

The Lilywhites had gone into the game with no points and no goals from their opening three matches in Ryman League Division 1 South, including a 4-0 defeat at Whitehawk on Saturday.

But centre-half Matt Bourne eased the pressure with a second-half winner and Turner (pictured) admitted: "You can’t deny that it’s a relief to get your first points on the board because the longer you go the harder it gets, it becomes a bit of a mental barrier.

"I thought we were unlucky not to get something out of first game against Worthing, and in our first three games I was only really unhappy with our performance in the last 20 minutes at Hythe. At Whitehawk we were beaten by the better side, it’s as simple as that."

Turner will now look to his players to build on Monday's result when they travel to south-west London on Saturday to take on Raynes Park Vale in the FA Cup preliminary round.

The Combined Counties League Premier Division outfit have also made a poor start with three points from three games, and Turner added: "Although we don’t know much about them, it certainly feels better going there with that first win."

Midfielder Dale Skelton is ruled out by work commitments but otherwise Turner has a full squad available.
