Canterbury's Marlowe Theatre attracts record-breaking crowd for show starring Mister Maker Phil Gallagher

More than 90,000 people have watched the Jack and The Beanstalk panto at Canterbury's Marlowe Theatre.

The total of 90,364 people enjoyed the spectacle starring EastEnders star Samantha Womack and Phil Gallagher, Mister Maker from Cbeebies.

That is an average of 1,076 people per perfomance and meant the the auditorium was 92.5% full.

Sleeping Beauty, the 2012/13 panto, attracted more than 84,000 customers.

Marlowe Theatre director Mark Everett said: “It’s an impressive increase on our previous best pantomime, but I have to say, I’m not surprised.

“The number of people who saw Jack And The Beanstalkis testament to a fabulous and highly-entertaining show, brought to us once again by Evolution Productions, a top-rate cast – who received amazing reviews – and the hard work of everyone at The Marlowe.

“The show ran from 29 November, but right from the start of rehearsals, three weeks before this, there was a feeling in the building that we were on to something special and that this was the one.”
