Row over women-only parking spaces

Tower House, where women-only parking spaces for councillors have sparked a row

A lot of hot air over nothing - that is one councillor's view over a women-only parking spaces row.

The sexism furore over the Tower House car park in Canterbury centres on parking spaces reserved only for women councillors attending meetings at the Guildhall.

One councillor has questioned “the legality of the policy”, arguing it discriminates against men.

Council spokesman Rob Davies said the spaces had been saved for women so that they would not need to walk back to car parks at night.

But Cllr Jean Law retorted: “It is a lot of hot air over nothing.

“If anyone attacked me when I was walking back to my car after a council meeting, I’d smack them.”
