A busy road in Canterbury has been blocked in both directions after a crash this afternoon.

Drivers travelling home are experiencing long delays trying to get out of the city after the single-car collision in Kingsmead Road at around 3pm.

A woman, the driver, has suffered minor injuries.

The accident follows another incident this morning where firefighters freed a man and a woman from the wreckage of their cars in Broad Oak Road.

Police are at the scene and urging drivers to use an alternative route.

CANTERBURY: Kingsmead Rd closed due to RTC. Routes 5 and 22 are subject to delay.
