A woman has described her disbelief at finding a baby and toddler in a locked car - but faced a backlash online for failing to act.

Georgina Long told members of Canterbury Residents Group on Facebook about the incident in Watling Street car park this morning.

She said a young woman parked up next to her, got out of the car and walked off.

A woman claims she saw children unattended in a car. Stock image.

"It was only when I got into my car that I noticed her window was half open, I looked across and saw a toddler in the front seat and a baby in the back," she said.

"I couldn't believe it. I was really worried about the children so hung around for a few minutes, but I had to go and on leaving I looked up into the Dane John and towards the bus station, she still wasn't in sight.

"Unbelievable. People wonder why children get taken."

But she faced a barrage of criticism from other users for failing to alert police, especially as temperatures soared to the mid-20s.

She replied: "I must have been there for 10 minutes and they were alone. I wish that I could have stayed but a migraine was starting and had to get away while I could still drive."

It is not known if the incident was reported to police or whether any action was taken against the mother.
