At 5.30pm yesterday, a 19-year-old from the Canterbury area was arrested on suspicion of stealing a motor vehicle.

He has been bailed until May 8.

The incident has prompted Sgt Colette Todd, of Canterbury's Community Safety Unit, to issue a warning to moped and motorbike users urging them to store their bikes securely.

"Make sure they are locked, chained and covered when parked and consider fitting an alarm to alert you if it is interfered with," she said.

"Bike owners should also try to park their vehicles in areas which are well-lit and covered by CCTV.

"Marking parts of the bike will also make them easier to recover in the unfortunate event that it is stolen."
