A2 at standstill in Canterbury as police talk woman down from bridge

Traffic was at a standstill after concerns for a woman on a bridge on the A2 near Canterbury.

A woman was seen on the A28 bridge at Thanington earlier, but has now been talked down by police.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "Kent Police was called to reports of concern for a woman on the A2 London bound carriageway near Canterbury.

"Traffic was stopped in both directions while officers brought the woman to safety."

Warnings were put out that motorists would be delayed and the incident started just before 1pm.

The bus company put out a tweet telling passengers: "Due to a police incident at the A2 Bridge Wincheap. Services in the area will be delayed.

"Apologies for any inconvenience."
