Prompting from his girlfriend led to Kent University graduate James Delin answering an advert for a lead singer in a band.

He was successful, and now just six months later a.thousand.ways.to.fall have launched their first EP.

The four-piece describe their sound as a mix of heavy riffs but with appeal for those who prefer their music a little lighter.

Kent and Christ Church University students Matt Crooks, Alex Fox and Dan Atkinson, all 19, were joined by philosophy graduate James, 22, last October.

Since then, they have been working hard getting their name out around the local music scene and recording their first tracks in the studio, through independent label Lakeland Records.

“We had our own sound developed in our old band and then James came along and just put his own take on it and it’s just really gone forward from there,” said Matt.

James’ girlfriend encouraged him to audition for the band after seeing the poster around campus.

“I just really wanted to be in a band,” said James. “I love music and have played guitar since about age five and have played with other people, but never really been part of a band, so I’m absolutely delighted to have joined.”

The band’s next gig is at the Beer Cart Arms, Canterbury on Thursday, March 12, with support from Colt.44, CWB and Balbulus.
