A lunch delivery business has been rolled out by students
with learning and physical disabilities.

The scheme, organised by Canterbury-based day centre Active Lives,
was officially launched on Monday.

It is the first of its kind in the south east, and is designed to
give the students greater independence and offer them equal
opportunities.

My Lunch Now is being run from the Active Lives centre in
Cumberland Avenue, Canterbury, and offers a delivery service of
more than 500 lunch items to businesses and residents in Canterbury
and the surrounding villages.

The students undertook a training programme which has prepared them
to run all aspects of the business, from taking orders, to making
them and then finally delivery to customers.

They will also help in marketing the venture through leaflets and
sample drops.

All profit will be used to pay the students’ salaries with any
extra money put back into My Lunch Now to help its expansion.

Active Lives director Soheil Haji said: “This is the first real
employment opportunity for many of the students who have limited
abilities because of their learning difficulties.

“We want to offer the chance for them to develop in employment and
work towards a level of independence in their lives, which is very
exciting not only for them but also for Active Lives as a company
establishing it."
