A wanted man caught driving along a major road at over 100mph failed a breath test after being stopped by police – who found a machete in the car.

Officers from the road policing unit were called in to help catch the driver who was speeding down the A2, fleeing an assault that occurred at a property in Rochester.

Patrick Oxley, 31, from Swanley, attempted to evade police but they boxed him in forcing him to stop his vehicle.

Tweeting about the incident the team who made the arrest told how they used their vehicles in a TPAC – tactical pursuit and containment – manoeuvre.

It was then confirmed that once detained the man failed a roadside breath test.

On searching his car officers discovered a large machete resting on the front seat.

The officers said the man was wanted for domestic abuse offences.

A police spokesman said: “During the early hours of Sunday 23 April 2023 Kent Police was called to report an assault had occurred at a property in Rochester and the suspect had left the scene.

“Officers on patrol on the A2 pursued a vehicle which they believed contained the suspect, which was later stopped on North Cray Road, Bexley and a man was arrested.

“Patrick Oxley, 31, from High Street, Swanley has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon, threats to kill, assault, and drink driving.”
