A cast member of one of Kent's most popular pantomimes has been hospitalised after a stunt went wrong on stage.

The unidentified stunt motorcyclist takes part in arguably the most hair-rising scene of this year's Marlowe Theatre show, Mother Goose.

During the bit, Canterbury legend Ben Roddy - playing the title character - acts as one of three bikers riding around a caged dome.

But yesterday, a mishap led to a trip to the hospital for one of the performers.

The Marlowe told KentOnline: "During Saturday afternoon’s performance of Mother Goose, an incident took place during a scene involving two motorcycle stunt riders.

"One of the riders fell off her bike and the show was then immediately stopped.

"Our theatre team administered first aid and, as a precaution, paramedics were called and she was taken to hospital.

"Audiences who had been watching the show will be offered tickets to a list of alternative Mother Goose performances.”

It is not known how seriously she was hurt but today the Canterbury theatre has tweeted an update, following a rash of concern from last night's audience members.

It reads: "Thank you so much to everyone who has asked about the motorcycle stunt rider following yesterday's incident.

"Her father told us last night that she was still under hospital observation, but nothing is broken.

"She hopes to rejoin the #marlowepanto very soon."

This year's festive bonanza sees a host of celebrities joining long-term Marlowe veterans Mr Roddy and Lloyd Hollett.

Completing the main line-up are Dr Ranj from CBeebies and This Morning, Jenna Russell from Eastenders and Marc Pickering from Boardwalk Empire and the Les Misérables film.

The popular show runs until Sunday, January 12.
