A woman was left with severe injuries after being dragged by her face along a pavement... after asking to share a cigarette.

Police are investigating after the woman asked a man if she could share a cigarette with him in Lower Bridge Street, Canterbury on Saturday, September 28.

She was then thrown to the floor at around 4am, before her attacker dragged her face across the pavement.

Police are appealing for witnesses. Stock picture

The 24-year-old is believed to be permanently scarred as a result of the motiveless attack.

PC Richard Lorimer said: "This appears to be a random and motiveless attack during which the victim has suffered substantial facial injuries.

"The attack happened at a time when many people would have been walking home after a night out. We believe the man was accompanied by two females and would urge anyone with information to call us."

Anyone with information should call PC Lorimer on 07528 989273, quoting reference ZY/028970/13, or Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
