Teenager seriously injured in Canterbury after being hit by ambulance on emergency call

A teenager was fighting for his life in a London hospital with serious injuries last night after he was hit by an ambulance on its way to an emergency call.

The youngster was critical but stable after medics treated the 17-year-old at the scene of the crash in New Dover Road, Canterbury.

Crews were called at around 8.05am yesterday morning and the teenager was airlifted to St George's Hospital in London.

The scene of the accident where a teenager was knocked down by an ambulance.

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed that one of their ambulances were involved in the collision.

The spokesman said: "One further ambulance and three ambulance cars attended the scene. We also assigned the air ambulance team to the incident.

“A male teenager has been assessed and treated at the scene for serious injuries. He was then airlifted to St George’s Hospital in London.

“The ambulance involved in the incident was en route to an emergency in the area. Another ambulance was assigned to attend this call.

“Our thoughts are with the teenager and his family.”

It is reported the ambulance was on an emergency call at the time and its blue lights and sirens were activated.

Officers from the Kent Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene and enquiries are ongoing.
