HAPPY MAN: Martin McCague

FORMER Kent and England pace bowler Martin McCague has declared £131,427 from his benefit season in 2002.

The Irish-born, Aussie-raised paceman, who turns 34 next week, will make his final bow in front of a St Lawrence crowd when he collects his numbered Kent cap at the first presentation to surviving county players on Friday, May 30.

After giving up the game professionally, McCague now turns out for Kent League side Gore Court and plans to play Minor Counties cricket for Herefordshire.

"It’s been a busy couple of years, but it’s a tremendous thing for me to be able to announce such a fantastic benefit figure," said 'Big Mac, who these days spends his weekdays travelling the motorways of Britain as an accounts executive for the Faversham-based brewers Shepherd Neame.
