Canterbury City are searching for a new manager after Simon Pettit left the club after a bust-up on Wednesday.

The player-boss claims he quit the club after a row with officials in the wake of City’s 5-0 FA Vase loss at Sevenoaks on Saturday.

However, club chairman Tim Clark said Pettit was sacked and hinted the club would seek an experienced replacement after back-to-back novice managers.

Pettit said: “The club is an absolute shambles. We’ve not been paid for three weeks and there are no training facilities.

“Maybe the club were hoping the FA Cup and Vase might bankroll them for a few weeks."

Mr Clark added: “We’ve had the worst pre-season we’ve had and recent results have been disappointing.

“We also had two winnable games in important cup competitions, with respect to the opponents and lost both. After discussions with the board, we decided a strong message had to be sent and the situation had to be addressed."
