Canterbury golfers triumph in knock-out competition

MEMBERS of Canterbury Golf Club became the inaugural winners of the East Kent League Knock-out Cup at Ashford. Kings Hill (West Malling) Division 2 champions in their first year, provided stiff opposition which resulted in the match, played in the fourball, better ball format, being drawn 2.5-2.5.

Canterbury captain Richard Davies and Kings Hill's Chris Broughton agreed that the winners be decided by the opening scratch players playing off the long par three 18th until someone won. The nail-biting, but sporting, final was concluded in near darkness and in front of more than 100 people in front of the clubhouse and last green.
