Jen Wilson says victory in the early-season Investec National Premier Division clash of the top-two would be a statement win for her new-look Canterbury side.

The city club continued their 100% start to the season with a narrow home win over University of Birmingham on Saturday evening.

Wilson’s side sit second in the table behind Bowdon Hightown, the only other side to have won both their opening games and whom they visit on Saturday (1.45pm).

Head coach Wilson said: “It certainly would be a statement win but it’s a tough place to go.

“We’ve had a tough start, on paper, with our first three games but if we were able to get through it with three wins then what a start that would be.”

Canterbury have blended several new arrivals with some improving youngsters this term and Wilson said: “They have done well. A few of them have been thrown in at the deep end and they are looking good, although we still have a lot to work on. We are by no means the finished article.”

Wilson is wary of the attacking threat posed by the Manchester side, adding: “Knowing Bowdon, I’m sure we’re not looking at another 1-0 game.

“They have the ability to score all types of goals. They have a blend of experienced players and some solid youngsters.

“Defence is one of the key areas of our team but we are keen to get goals too and we have players capable of scoring goals from open play and corners.”
