A TRY in each half was enough to see Canterbury Rugby Club to a 15-7 win at home to Ealing in the second round of the EDF National Trophy on Saturday.

Both sides rested players, and Canterbury missed opportunities to have won more comfortably.

The visitors took the lead in the 14th minute through wing Joe Hardy who left Andy Jack an easy conversion.

Eventually, Canterbury scrum half Paddy Gill began a move which allowed flanker Benn Smith to charge over and Wessel Wolmarans levelled matters with his conversion.

Wolmarans spilled another chance with the line beckoning but, in first half stoppage time, he added an easy penalty goal.

With plenty of comings and goings from the replacements bench the rugby became scrappy in the second half until Eoin Stewart made a decisive break, Wolmarans chipped forward and James Reilly delivered the try which took Canterbury to safety.
