Kent coach Matt Walker has told of his pride after Zak Crawley turned his maiden Test century into a double hundred for England.

The 22-year-old batsman was finally out for a brilliant 267 against Pakistan in the third Test at Southampton.

He became the third youngest player to score a Test double century for England and his score was the second highest Test innings by an England number three.

Crawley put on 359 for the fifth wicket with Jos Buttler, smashing the previous best Test stand for the fifth wicket for his country.

Resuming day two on 171 not out, Crawley had to get through two early breaks for rain before getting to his magnificent double hundred.

Kent coach Walker was among those to pay tribute to Crawley’s magnificent innings.

He said: “To see a young lad who has come through your academy scoring his maiden Test century is extremely emotional.

“To say I’m proud is an enormous understatement. I’m sure there’ll be many more to come.”

England declared their innings on 583-8 before reducing Pakistan to 24-3 at the close on day two.
