Kent are not banking on bumper crowds this summer – despite Covid restrictions due to be lifted in the weeks ahead.

Director of cricket Paul Downton has revealed the budget reflects a cautious approach and any attendance at matches will see priority given to members.

"It's been challenging for every club," said Downton. "Thinking back to a year ago we didn't have much of an idea about the extent of Covid and what it would mean.

"We managed it bit by bit and it has been a real club effort. We feel as though we are in reasonable shape and can continue the progress the club is making.

"We've not actually budgeted for anything like a full term (of fans). Our priority goes to members as they've supported us through this winter but obviously as we come out of lockdown, and we get the opportunity to get bigger crowds it will make a big difference to the economy of the club.

"It will be a gradual process but we've conservatively budgeted at the moment so if we can get back to big crowds by the end of the year that will be a big bonus."
