Headaches for Ford ahead of Yorkshire clash

FORD: a number of issues to resolve

DIRECTOR of coaching Graham Ford spent a sleepless Monday evening trying to fly overseas all-rounder Andrew Hall into the country ahead of Kent's up-coming four-day match in Canterbury.

When South Africa completed their 2-0 series win over New Zealand prematurely this week, Kent were left trying to re-schedule Hall's flight in a bid to get him to London in time for Wednesday's championship clash with Yorkshire.

The efforts are still on-going, but with a reported 20 per cent over subscription of seats with British Airways, the early signs are that Hall will not arrive in time to play.

His inclusion would have been a huge boost for an injury plagued Kent squad fresh from a three-day defeat in Manchester at the hands of Lacashire.

Pace bowlers Amjad Khan (hamstring), Martin Saggers (heel), David Stiff (knee) are all long term absentees and they are now joined by spinners Min Patel (groin strain) and the latest victim, off-spinner James Tredwell, who tore a quad muscle playing club cricket at the weekend.

It all leaves Ford with a series of issues to resolve and a massive selection headache ahead of the clash with newly promoted Yorkshire.

At least captain Rob Key returns to the fold after England A duty, but wicketkeeper Geraint Jones, who has teamed up with England ahead of Thursday's Lord's Test against Sri Lanka, will be replaced by Niall O'Brien.

Kent from: Fulton, Key, van Jaarsvend, Walker, Stevens, Kemp, Dexter, O'Brien, Cook, Joseph, Ferley, Hall, Cusden, Dennington.
