IAN FLANAGAN: impressive displays for the second team last season

KENT have parted company week with fringe players James Hewitt and former Essex batsman Ian Flanagan (Mark Pennell writes).

Hewitt played just one first-class match and one National League appearance in his two seasons since joining from Middlesex, a move that attracted a £400 ECB fine following an illegal approach by the then Kent captain Matthew Fleming.

Hewitt, plagued by back injuries, plans to marry and consider his future, possible outside the game.

Flanagan, signed on a development contract this summer after a handful of impressive performances for the Kent 2nd XI last year.

However, the 23-year-old left-hander failed to force his way into the first team shake-up despite the vacancies created by Fulton’s eye injury and Rob Key’s absence with England.

Flanagan has been offered a trial by Derbyshire. The Midlands club are currently bottom of the Frizzell County Championship's second division.
