GOAL HERO: David Mathews

CANTERBURY are celebrating winning their first ever indoor title after beating holders East Grinstead in the final of the Qatar Airways National Championships at the NIA in Birmingham on Sunday.

England international David Mathews hit four goals as Canterbury came from 4-1 and 5-4 down to beat the West Sussex club in a repeat of last year's final, and cap an excellent victory for the Polo Farm club. Andy Richardson was named as man of the final.

Canterbury lost goalkeeper Tom Sheridan who suffered a broken leg just two minutes into the semi-final win against Loughborough Students. He was taken to hospital, but allowed to travel home with the rest of the squad.

Kings School Canterbury girls won the Under-18 event, beating Bromsgrove in the final after a penalty shoot-out.
