Georgina Harland limped home to help Great Britain win team silver at the World Modern Pentathlon Championships in Budapest.

However, she will miss out on another tilt at the Olympics after finishing way down the field.

The 30-year-old Olympic bronze medallist, from Waltham in Canterbury, injured her calf muscle 500m from the finish, and had to be helped onto the podium to collect her medal.

The British performance director Jan Bartu was full of praise for Harland. He said: "She was in severe pain at the finish. We only beat Hungary to silver by two seconds, and that was thanks to Georgina’s effort.”

Harland finished 30th in the individual event, while team-mate Katy Livingstone won bronze, her first individual medal. Heather Fell was fourth and Mhairi Spence 19th.
