Kent beat Somerset in Royal London One-Day Cup on DLS method

Kent beat Somerset at home in the Royal London One-Day Cup by 28 runs on Duckworth/Lewis (DLS).

It is now three wins in a row for the Spitfires after losing their opening two matches.

Kent restricted the visitors to 221 in the reduced overs game and were ahead of the DLS par score when the rain came during their innings.

Kent made two changes to the side that beat Hampshire on Sunday with skipper Sam Billings back in the side after returning from the IPL while Harry Podmore also came in. Adam Rouse and Zak Crawley the two to miss out.

Heavy rain at the start of the day reduced the match to 42 overs a side with the floodlight match starting at 3.30pm and Somerset batted first.

Matt Henry struck twice early in the Somerset innings to put the away side on the back foot.

He got Steven Davies (2) and Johann Myburgh (8) to leave them 17-2.

Wickets continued to fall consistently through the first part of the innings and at one stage were 65-5.

A 103-run partnership between Matt Renshaw (56) and skipper Lewis Gregory (60) helped them post 221-9 off 42 overs.

Henry the pick of the bowlers on 3-37 with Calum Haggett also taking three wickets for 42 runs.

Darren Stevens (2-36) and Mitch Claydon (1-32) also claimed wickets.

Chasing 222, Kent lost Daniel Bell-Drummond for no score in the first over off Gregory’s bowling.

Heino Kuhn (36 not out) and Joe Denly (44 not out) built a solid partnership of 87 before the players had to go off after a deluge.

The game could not be resumed and with Kent 28 runs ahead of the DLS par score they took the points.
