Rob Key's Kent side face the long trip to Scotland next summer

Kent's cricketers will face a long trip north of the border next summer after being drawn together with Scotland in qualifying Group B of the new look 2009 Friends Provident Trophy.

Rob Key's side, beaten by Essex in this year's final, will play the Scots, Warwickshire, Somerset and Middlesex on a home and away basis following Tuesday's de-regionalised draw at Lord's.

Kent have played Scotland on five previous occasions in limited overs cricket winning each time; the last in 2005 when Spitfires landed a brace of Totesport League wins over the Scots who included Pakistan all-rounder Yasir Arafat in their number. Next year's ties will be the first time the two sides have met in the Trophy competition.

Holders Essex have been drawn in qualifying Group D together with Glamorgan, Lancashire, Derbyshire and Northamptonshire as they look to defend their title at next season's Friends Provident Trophy final at Lord's on Saturday, July 25 with a reserve day on the Sunday.
