FORMER University of Kent student, Trudi Else has been chosen to take part in The Queen’s Jubilee Baton Relay when it reaches Canterbury on Sunday.

A former Sports Sabbatical Officer with the Students’ Union, Trudi was selected after being nominated for her commitment to university sport and for the time and effort she has put into encouraging and running sport at UKC.

Trudi, 23, is thrilled to have been chosen. "This is a real honour and I am really pleased to take part in this major

event," she said.

During her time at the University, she won UKC Sportswomen of the Year twice and three medals at the British Universities Championships at track cycling, also representing Great Britain at the Intercrosse World Cup in Italy.

In her final year, she was elected as Sports

Sabbatical during which time the hockey team excelled, the University secured a beach volleyball court and hosted the debut match of Brian Lara for the Lashings Team - an event which received national media coverage.

Trudi, who studied Business Administration, now works as a Development Manager with Sport England, a job she says suits her down to the ground. She will shortly be on

secondment to the Commonwealth Games where her job will be to co-ordinate the teams from Africa. However, she still has fond memories of her time at Kent.

"My experience at UKC helped develop my confidence which was a great asset boost when entering the wider world of business and employment. My degree stood up well

nationally, and I graduated with a wide knowledge around my subject with some skills that would directly transfer into the work place. The Sabbatical position was the icing on the cake - I learnt so much during that time."
