Faversham Town manager Ray Turner is looking to new loan signing Jack Harris to boost his side’s flagging goal output.

Last Saturday’s goalless draw at Ryman 1 South leaders Peacehaven & Telscombe meant that Faversham, although unbeaten in their last seven matches, have only scored twice in the last five.

With leading scorer Luke Harvey sidelined by a hamstring injury, Turner felt the need to boost his striking resources by signing 19-year-old Harris on a month’s loan from Maidstone United.

The youngster wasted little time getting off the mark with Town's goal in the 1-1 draw at Horsham on Wednesday.

“Jack got a lot of goals for Tunbridge Wells on their way to the Vase final last season,” he said. “He started this season at Maidstone but then picked up an injury which set him back, but I have got a good relationship with Maidstone and I know they like him.

“With Luke out for a few weeks it was important that we had some sort of physical presence up front and Jack’s a big, strong lad and technically good.”

Turner will check on Harvey’s fitness on Thursday with a view to the striker possibly returning to the squad for Saturday’s trip to Chipstead but, failing that, the manager is confident he will be ready to return the following week at home to Corinthian-Casuals.

Town's point at Horsham in a game rearranged from the previous evening kept them in the play-off hunt, and Turner knows that his side’s chances will probably depend on them continuing to pick up points over the next few matches.

He said: “There’s just a little bit of a gap between us and the top five and it’s important that we make sure we are ready to step in if any of them slip up."
