Sam Denly is hoping Herne Bay’s Ryman League Division 1 South game against Three Bridges goes ahead at Winch’s Field on Saturday.

However the prospects are not good, with more rain forecast ahead of the weekend.

No football has been played on the ground since December 14, when Bay beat Tooting 3-1.

Boss Denly said: “It ruined the pitch – we need a couple of dry days.”

Groundsman Anthony Deer is pessimistic about a return to action this weekend.
Speaking on Wednesday Deer said: “It’s one step forward and six steps back at the moment. It rained again overnight on Tuesday, and more is expected.

“The club want the game to go ahead, but the chances are slim. The problem is that the pitch sits on clay, which acts like a sponge."

If Bay do play, Denly will make changes as he looks for a reaction, following the 5-1 reverse at Ramsgate last weekend.

Sam Hasler, Connor Sanders and Ben Brown are all available after missing the game, while Kane Phillips could also be in contention for a place in the squad .

Three Bridges have won two and drawn the other in their last three games, having lost seven of their previous eight and Denly added: “They are on a decent run, but I keep saying, everyone in this league can beat each other.”
