Bikers warned to ride sensibly

Nuisance bikers have been warned to keep off Dartford’s parks after two motorbikes being ridden off-road were seized by police.

Beat officer PC Michael Laidlow and a Dartford Park Ranger, working together as part of Dartford’s Public Safety Unit (PSU), seized the bikes as they rode out of Darenth Country Park following a call from a member of the public.

Dartford council says it will not tolerate the activity and says it will take all steps necessary to protect public spaces and their users.

Council leader Jeremy Kite says he has encouraged officers to crack down on this nuisance and wants to see more and more unlawfully ridden bikes taken off the road.

“We have some beautiful parks and green spaces in Dartford and off-road bikers must understand it is not just a bit of harmless fun to ride there,” he said.

“It can be terrifying for others enjoying the park and I’m pleased we were able to do something in this instance.”

Riding motorbikes is banned in all of Dartford’s parks and the offence can lead to the motorbike being seized.

To report inappropriate use of bikes or other anti-social behaviour call the PSU 01322 343205.
