Six people arrested after a young woman reported being raped in Bluewater car park have been released without charge.

The alleged prolonged attack on the woman in her twenties was said to have happened between 6.30pm and 9pm on Mother's Day last year as the woman waited for a bus.

She reported being attacked by seven men and bundled into a van before being subjected to a horrific three-hour assault.

Four other people arrested after the rape claims were made had already been released without charge and today police revealed the final six suspects have not been charged after the Crown Prosecution Service decided there was not enough evidence to prosecute.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police carried out a full and thorough investigation into the incident of Sunday, March 6 last year, including a review of all available CCTV footage, forensic evidence and mobile telephone data.

"A case was then presented to the Crown Prosecution Service, which ruled there was insufficient evidence to support a prosecution.

"Officers are continuing to support the victim and will review the case should any further information be received."
