Campaigners stage sit-in protest

Protestors at a disabled centre will finish their 48-hour protest today.

Some users of the centre will have been there for the full 48 hours, having been at the centre since Tuesday afternoon.

Sonia Mallion, one of the organisers of the protest, was tired but no less determined this morning.

She said: "Some people have stayed for the entire time.

"What we want to achieve is an extension on the deadline so we can make sure everything is in place.

"We have always said that everything is happening far too quickly."

The centre is due to close on Friday, October 17, and KCC propose to replace it with other centres.

The Riverside Centre, in Dickens Road, Gravesend, is being considered as a replacement, along with the Discovery Centre, Swanscombe, and Swanley Youth and Community Centre.

Each of these will be open for one day a week with the other two days being used for various activties.
